Press release: Codan/Trygg-Hansa and NetDoktor cooperate on new health portal

(Copenhagen, 8 June 2000) - Europe’s leading eHealth portal Netdoktor.com has entered into a strategic alliance with the large Scandinavian insurance company Codan/Trygg-Hansa on developing a new online health service for the company’s customers. The new Internet service, branded CareOnline, will be introduced in Sweden later this year.

"To NetDoktor, this cooperation signifies a new chapter in our company. In the future we will also be a service company that provides services of concrete health information to our users. We are moving towards care services bundled with our extensive amount of information," said Mikael Vissing, CEO NetDoktor.

Today NetDoktor has subsidiary companies in six countries and has more than one million unique visitors at its websites every month. The Copenhagen-based NetDoktor company is established with subsidiaries and eHealth portals in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria and United Kingdom. More than 450 of Europes leading doctors work with the company on providing top quality health information.

CareOnline is designed to provide answers to health related questions 24 hours a day. Users will be able to debate with equals and professionals or refer to a comprehensive offering of health information provided by NetDoktor. NetDoktor guarantees that the medical information presented on CareOnline is reliable and up to date.

"We plan that CareOnline will introduce a comprehensive healthcare portal with Trygg-Hansa (Codan’s subsidiary company) as supplier of insurance later this fall. The goal is that CareOnline shall be Sweden’s best health service where the whole family through a call centre and the Net can access information about health and well being as well as obtain information on insurance possibilities such as a policy that can guarantee admission to the best hospitals. The portal will not be a competitor to the public health system - it will supply service to the people who are concerned about their health. Immediately after the first Swedish experience with the portal, it is our plan to introduce CareOnline in Denmark," said Poul Mortensen, Director at Codan.

"Codan’s demand for quality and reliability is completely fulfilled by NetDoktor. They have proved that they are providers of top quality medical information and they have progressive content that would be difficult for us to build and maintain otherwise. This agreement combines traditional insurance thought with the possibilities of the Net," added Mortensen.

Currently, work is underway between CareOnline, VM-data, Head Concept, NetDoktor and Trygg-Hansa to develop the new health portal. Bo Lagergren, project coordinator at CareOnline, suggests it will not be very long before the Karolinska Institute, among others, joins the initiative.
