HT Medical Systems Inc was a leading developer of virtual reality (VR) and web-based multi-media systems for medical training. In 1997 Deloitte & Touche called HT "one of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in the USA".

During my Ph.D. I had been working on basic technology for Surgery Simulation applications - "flight simulators for doctors". Although I had decided not to continue in academia, I still wanted to continue working with the subject which I found very exciting. There was really only one company in the world that was working seriously in this area, so I applied immediately for a job with them. After a brief e-mail exchange and a visit to HT, I was offered the job as Senior Scientist. I joined HT Medical Systems in the autumn of 1996.

While at HT Medical, I led the development of a number of ground-breaking new simulation products. My team developed the first commercial, truly realistic, surgical simulator; the PreOp Endoscopic Simulator. This product still today forms the core of HT's product offering.

At the end of 1999, I left HT to join the INSEAD MBA program in France. I was then the manager of software development, working with a great multi-disciplinary team of 10 talented individuals from 6 different countries.

On July 31, 2000, it was announced that Immersion (NASDAQ: IMMR) would purchase HT Medical Systems Inc for 42 million USD.
