When I joined IBM Denmark, it was a time of change. The PC was changing the dynamics of the computer industry and large restructurings were happening within IBM. Entire departments were being removed and those that worked on the PC business saw an in-flux of people from the older departments.

I worked for the division of IBM that was responsible for PC sales through the PC dealer network in Denmark. I became involved in new product launches in the software area, and was part of the teams that launched WordPerfect 5.0, Microsoft Excel, Navigator (now called Navision), OS/2 and other exciting new applications. Much of my work was in developing and running courses on the new products for the employees of IBMs PC dealers, doing seminars for large customers, and evaluating new products.

After a year or so, I started taking on the role of "handler" for many of the new product managers coming in from older departments. These people needed time learning about the new world of PCs and I typically helped them run their product area while they were learning and adapting. It usually took 6 months before they were able to stand on their own feet, and I would move on to a new person and a new product.
